8th Annual Scholarship & Awards Program

June 7, 2024

CAMDEN – Women of the Dream (WOD) will award $51,700 in scholarships to 17 young women graduating from four Camden high schools at its Eighth Annual Scholarship & Awards Program on Saturday, June 8, at the Camden High School Campus from 11 am – 2 pm.

“WOD is so thankful to all of our sponsors and donors who have made this possible for our girls,” said WOD Founder & CEO Leslie Morris. “As these girls graduate and begin this next phase of their lives, they have the financial support they need and the confidence of knowing there’s a whole network of businesses and organizations who believe in their capacity for success.”

WOD’s College Prep, Career & Workforce Readiness Program is not just another program. It’s a unique initiative that prepares girls in grades 11 and 12 from Camden High School, Creative Arts High School, Charles Brimm Medical Arts High School, and Big Picture Learning Academy for college, the workforce, and a broad spectrum of professional careers within the global marketplace. Sessions occur weekly and are complemented by relevant activities such as visits to colleges and corporate sites, leadership training, and networking opportunities with successful women of color. Unlike other scholarship-awarding organizations, WOD provides scholarships to every student enrolled in its college prep program. They only need to apply. “We have 17 awardees precisely because we incorporate the scholarship program into the college prep program and work with the girls side by side to complete the application,” says WOD’s College Prep instructor, Donna Baines.

The event will be graced by esteemed guests, including Camden’s Superintendent Katrina T. McCombs, Camden’s Mayor Victor Carstarphen, the top scholarship sponsor, Deborah Brittain of the Brittain Foundation, as well as district officials, teachers, family members, and community leaders.

Scholarship sponsors are the Brittain Foundation, Wells Fargo, Bass & Sneed Family Foundation, Campbell Soup Company, Camden Rotary, Visa, Nu Nu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi, Rutgers-Camden, Camden Education Association, Dr. Adunni Slackman Anderson, Leonade Jones, OceanFirst, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of NJ, Community Care Food & Clothing Pantry, and CAMcare Health Corporation.
