Brittain Foundation to Provide a Four-Year Scholarship to a Camden Graduate

Camden, NJ – (April 27, 2021) – Women of the Dream (WOD) announced today that it will host its 5th Annual Scholarship & Awards Program. The event will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 11:00am – 2pm at The Salvation Army Kroc Center, 1865 Harrison Ave., Camden, NJ. The fundraiser will support scholarships for senior girls graduating from Camden city schools with plans to pursue a college degree or trade school.

“Women of the Dream is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty by providing mentoring, life skills and college prep programs to female students in Camden city schools. We are grateful to our many community partners and donors who support our scholarship program each year” said Leslie Morris, founder and CEO of Women of the Dream. Last year, WOD awarded over $20,000 in scholarships to 11 Camden college-bound young women.

Since it’s inception, WOD has awarded nearly $60,000 in scholarships to young women throughout Camden. This year, WOD is adding another scholarship opportunity with the support of the Brittain Foundation. The Foundation will sponsor one female student with a four-year scholarship totaling $16,000. “A one-year scholarship can be a barrier breaker for a student,” said Deborah C. Brittain, founder of the Brittain Foundation. “However, a guaranteed scholarship for each year can be a life changing booster, a confidence builder and a pathway to unending possibilities for the future.”

Due to COVID-19, WOD will host the event in-person with limited seating at the Kroc Center and online via the organization’s Facebook page and YouTube channel. Despite these uncertain times, WOD, sponsors, and volunteers are committed to uplifting and supporting young Camden female scholars and in their college and career journey. There is still time to support WOD scholars by becoming a sponsor.
