Readiness Program

Socially and culturally relevant activities complement our work with our girls in the classroom setting and include visits to colleges, job and corporate sites, museums, leadership conferences, teen empowerment programs, workshops, and an opportunity to meet and network with successful women of color.

Women of the Dream’s Yarelys and Zaniyah accompany founder & CEO Leslie Morris to the national book tour of former first lady Michelle Obama in Philadelphia.

Women of the Dream girls participate in and graduate from a book project where they submitted essays and other forms of expression for a soon-to-be-released book on social injustice and its impact on young people.

Each year Women of the Dream girls travel to the home of mentor/volunteer Tonya Love in Stony Point, NY for a backyard picnic and pool party. It’s important to expose young people to different social environments.

Through Women of the Dream’s partnership with the Center for Child and Family Achievement, 16-year old Dominique attended a summer youth program in Blairstown, NJ. Here she is with Leslie in front of the log cabin, her living quarters for 6-weeks!

Four Women of the Dream girls accompany Leslie to an award ceremony in New Jersey where Leslie receives the citizen of the year award! It’s important for young people to be exposed to formal affairs where they learn and are exposed to a different set of social rules and expectations.
